Create Redistricting Plans with Candidate Sites

This feature is only available in iRedistrict for Site.

iRedistrict for site also supports an automated approach for evaluating a set of candidate sites by taking a list of potential new site locations to automatically evaluate each one. The system generates a collection of redistricting plans for each site candidate and provides the summary statistics of the plans to compare and evaluate candidate sites. One can specify the number of plans to be generated.

To add candidates and set attributes for each site, click the Set Candidates button and then click on the map. One can add any number of site candidates for evaluation. The picture below shows a sample map with three site candidates added (in blue).

After adding site candidates, click the Test Candidates button to automatically generate a specified number of redistricting plans for each site candidate. The set of plans for each site will be used to evaluate, compare, and rank the site candidates in terms of how well they meet the chosen criteria. Statistical values of those redistricting plans are calculated for comparison and shown in the Candidate Table below. Each record (row) in the table has a set of statistical values for a site candidate.

Five statistics are calculated for each chosen criteria, including the minimum, maximum, mean, median and the standard deviation of all plans generated with a specific candidate. The Total Measures section displays the weighted average of scores for all chosen criteria.

To show a redistricting plans generated for a site candidate in the map, select a point from the scatter plot. Each point represents a plan. When a point is selected in the scatter plot, the selected plan’s information will be updated in the map and report.
